The All-Important End To That First Date

When it comes to that first date there’s no denying that first impressions count. But how can you ensure you leave a positive lasting impression when the date ends. And if the spark isn’t there, what’s the best way to say goodbye? Let an elite dating agency help.

To kiss, or not to kiss, that’s the question.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to this one. If the date has gone well and there’s chemistry between you, then a peck on the cheek is a no-brainer in some people’s eyes. That doesn’t mean you need to go in for the kill, but a little bit of physical contact shows you’ve enjoyed your date and that you’d like to meet again.

For some though, the idea of a simple peck on the cheek on a first date is inconceivable and certainly not the ‘done’ thing. Some people will only shake hands, and even if a spark is there, they’ll literally duck if their date tries to move in.

So, what should you do?

As an elite dating agency, the Bowes-Lyon Partnership is experienced at answering all sorts of dating questions. Here, we suggest being flexible and open-minded.

No matter which group you fall into, we’d recommend not imposing too many rules on yourself ahead of time. It’s great that to know your own mind and have an opinion on what is or isn’t acceptable, but arguably, love at first sight happens - and who knows how you’ll be feeling when your taxi home pulls up. You’ll probably have a sense of what you’d like to happen over the course of the date, so just be true to yourself and stay within your comfort zone.

Do you say au revoir or goodbye?

We’ve been matchmaking for a long time. The most important part of ending a first date successfully is to be honest about whether or not you’d like to see the other person again.

There are many ways to tell someone you’re not interested in another date without having to lie or resort to the tried and tested ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ clichés. Honesty and consideration will get you both through this awkward situation and your date will thank you in the long run if you diplomatically tell them how you feel about a second date.

And if you’re hoping to meet again but your date has other ideas, don’t forget that this honesty works both ways. You’ll be better off saying goodbye if this is the case, and it gives you a chance to move closer to Mr or Mrs Right. Try not to be too emotional. We’re an elite dating agency, so we’ll get the results you want.
