Christmas Date Night Tips
Christmas is the time for spreading love and cheer, so take advantage of this joyous season by making the most of your dating life. Here are our top 6 Christmas Date Night Tips to keep the sparkle alive:
1. Don’t turn down an invitation
The Christmas period is a series of parties and festivities, from the office Christmas celebration to your best friend’s annual get together, there is always an opportunity to meet new people and fraternise with old friends. If you are single this year and looking to meet someone special, take your nose out of your dating app and meet someone the good old-fashioned way - exchanging glances across a crowded room and making small talk over canapes. After all it is far more fun chatting all evening to a beautiful stranger with a glass of red wine by an open fire, than swiping through endless profiles in your pyjamas!
2. Picking the right outfit
For ladies and gentlemen alike, Christmas is the best time to look suave and sophisticated, with just a touch of sparkle. There are some lovely sequin dresses this season from brands like Coast, pair with a pair of silver heels and an embellished clutch to look classy and elegant, whilst also allowing you to feel fabulous on a date. For the gentlemen we feel you can’t go wrong with a cashmere crew neck. Paired with a smart jacket and tailored trousers, you will nail the ultimate smart/casual look.
3. Pace yourself
Everyone can get carried away with the festivities, however don’t let your evening end in regret. We all like to have fun but when the party is in full swing and the champagne is flowing, pace yourself and know your limits. Whether you are on a date or at an event, it is always better to leave the party while you are still having fun and end things on a high note, after all you don’t want your date to have to carry you home!
4. Choosing a location
The holiday season is abundant with Christmas markets, tasting sessions, late night shopping and everything in between, so it isn’t difficult to find something fun and interesting to do with your date.
If you are both outdoorsy people, then we suggest ice skating at one of London’s beautiful outdoor rinks. Hampton Court Palace offers an amazing picturesque backdrop, especially when lit up after dark, and is the perfect way to get to know one another while indulging in a little activity. Alternatively, try the elliptical ice rink on Hanover Square which is raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.
If you’d rather keep your feet on solid ground, the 300-acre botanic garden at Kew is lit up with glistening lights and illuminations of an evening. Walk under the stars and have a holly, jolly Christmas!
For foodies, dinner in a riverside igloo is an experience you can’t miss! Coppa Club, near Tower Bridge, provides the perfect location for a cosy dinner, complete with sheepskin blankets, dreamy views over the river Thames and a delectable blood orange polenta cake. However, if chatting over a glass of bubbly is more your scene then you need to check out the rooftop winter pop up at Coq d'Argent near Bank.
5. Meet during the week
We understand that it’s a busy time of year, with friends and family trying to organise meet-ups before December 25th, however if you’re weekends are fully booked don’t put your dating life on a standstill. With all the activity going on, use your time during the week to meet your date. You can meet for a mulled wine and a chat or even attend your local carol concert for some mid-week festive entertainment.
6. Take a weekend festive break
If things are going well with your new found love, why not take a spontaneous weekend away? Winter is a great time to explore a new country, or even revisit an old favourite in its snowy surroundings if you have only ever been there in the summertime. You can’t go wrong with the traditional festive delights of Hamburg, with over 15 different markets in the vicinity there will always be something to suit everyone’s taste. For somewhere a little different why not try Budapest, with their vast array of homemade Hungarian gifts of crocheted items, fur hats and pressed flower jewellery. It might almost be worth a visit just for their traditional cinnamon chimney cakes!
